Nightly Picture dump.

We went in for the 3 week check-up at South Riding Pediatrics today and our little man had a weigh-in at 7lbs/15oz! Now that's some heavy duty weight gain. He was born at 6lbs/8oz but dropped down to a mere 5lb/12oz in the following days when he was barely eating because of the jaundice. It's a good feeling to see the little dude go from barely sipping the formula to chugging down bottles of that stuff. He'll be devastating line backers in no time!

The thinking baby.

Buffer Overload...

Already 2 weeks old! Has it been two weeks already???? Next thing ya know, he'll be off to college! The past 14 days have been spent with semi-sleepless nights, blurry days, and everything else that comes with being brand new parents. We're just learning as we go, figuring out what works, what doesn't, and sometimes, what day it is....but we're loving every blood shot eye second of it. Matthew had his little cord stub disengage already so we gave him his first bath tonight. We prepared ourselves for a screamfest but he was as calm as can be. Score. He's sleeping fairly well so we try to snooze for an hour here and there when he does. And I thought I had weird sleep habits before. Well, here's another blitz of photos. Thank God for digital cameras, I remember reading something about "film" in a history book once. How barbaric.

Tattoo blanket. Every baby needs one.

Clean and fuzzy poppa/Clean and fuzzy baby.

First bath. After expecting the worst, Matty did not fuss at all. He truly seemed to like the warm water.

All clean!

Taking a break with momma.

Back Home (Again)

After being discharged on Thursday, 1/8, we had our first pediatric appointment the following day in South Riding on Friday afternoon. The baby was a little jaundice when we were discharged from the hospital and the docs and nurses assured that it was normal, etc and that it would pass with the standard feeding every 2-3 hours. When we saw the pediatrician on Friday we told her that he still wasn't eating much and she saw the jaundice setting in. She sent us to the Inova Labs in Fairfax to get a blood test for a bilirubin count and it came back elevated, clocking in a 22.3 (evidently anything over 20 is really pushing it) so she called us up and requested that we check into Reston hospital that night. Once we got there, we got our room with it's very own phototherapy machine which helps break down the bilirubin so his little body can pass it normally. We spent Friday and Saturday watching our little dude and by Sunday morning one of his many bilirubin blood test came back at 12 but they said it was probably even lower since it took them a few hours to get back to us with that test result. We are happy to say that he is now eating like a champ and we couldn't be happier. The crew at Reston hospital kicks so much ass it's not even funny. They really do love their jobs and it definitely shows.

Here's one more image from 1/9, our first day back home.

Big brother loves the new addition.

What the hell?

T minus zero...

One last picture of the momma-to-be before the big day. If all goes as planned, our little robot is set to go online on Tuesday, January 6th! We are SOOOO ready for this little dude to come out. For some weird reason, Reston hospital doesn't have any Wi-Fi spots or internet connectivity for the public (save for one or maybe two lame kiosks by the gift shop) so I'll post pix of Version 2.0 as soon as I can.
